Free Pistol Course of Fire

The free pistol match will be fired on the McLaughlin Range, a 50-yard outdoor range with covered firing points, and will be held rain or shine. We have range access starting a bit after 9:30 am and the preparation period will begin at 10am sharp.

The match will follow current USA Shooting rules, but there will be no final. The match consists of a 15 minute preparation and sighting period followed by 60 record shots fired 10 shots per target (the rules say 5, but that's impractical because we have to walk downrange to score) in a total time of 1 hour 45 minutes. The time duration for each 10-shot record target will be 17 minutes and 30 seconds. Any safe .22 caliber pistol can be used for this event. Each shot must be individually loaded - if you're using a semi-auto you may use the magazine but it may only contain one round. Likewise, revolvers may have only one round in the cylinder. Free pistol is an iron-sights event, USAS and ISSF rules do not permit the use of any optical elements mounted on the firearm. Please bring an empty-chamber indicator such as a length of weed-whacker wire or a chamber plug with a flag.

Competition will consist of 60 shots for all divisions
